LA ROCHELLE RAILWAY STATION GLASS ROOF RENOVATION

La Rochelle Railway Station is the last big station with a metal frame designned by Gustave Eiffel of the start of the 20th century.

After the damage caused by the great storms of 1999, the SNCF (Client : Réseau Ferré de France, Design: AREP), takes over the renovation of the building. Laubeuf is then assigned of the work on the 2000m² glassroof supported by a metal structure and on the 700m² gables.
Specific attention was given to the respect of the listed architecture and the adaptation of modern techniques: identical metal frame to the existing one and addition of modern profiles « extruded and drained aluminium ».

La Rochelle Railway Station remains operational during the works, and a high platform protects the passengers and provides access to our teams via additional hanging scaffolding, which all required an accurate management of the task sequence.

The new glassroof will obtain its former glory and will be back in use mid 2009.
